Forum Url: http://paposcape.smfforfree4.comHey my name is seanpapo, owner of www.paposcape.org formally www.paposcape.smfforfree4.com. I still use smf hosting but simply parked my domain, but i am thinking of hosting my own smf forums. This is because my site is filled completely with advertising. i generate a lot of traffic, and i would be more than glad to let smf post simple google ad banners on my site, but the word ads are starting to piss me off.. . As you can see there are already 11 advertisements on 1/5th of my page...http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh26/seanpapo/ridiculous.pngI think the google ad banners were fine, but this is ridiculous. Not even vbulletin posts this many ads. please think this one over for a little while. thanks seanpapo- Owner of www.PapoScape.org*large image changed to link. Do not post large images here

I agree 100% on this, i thought the old amount of ads were fine, but this is going to far with ads..... This is the kind of stuff that makes users want to switch forums.

It's really simple.... cough up a mere $7 and they go away. If you aren't willing to pay that for 25,000 clicks, then you must not be that serious about your forum. Go ahead and get yourself a vbulletin board and see how cheap that is.

As I see it, there are several choices.
1.You can leave the ads where they are
2.Pay for ad-free clicks to make them go away
3. Host your service yourself
4. Find another hosting service
Those are really the only options available to you. Remember that the money that SMF pays to run this whole shebang comes out of his pocket and from the revenue from ad free clicks and donations.
If you think that running this is inexpensive, just look around at what it would cost you to put something together like this yourself.
BTW, if you have several thousand a month to kick in I am sure SMF wouldn't mind.

I bought 25,000 ad free credits just to try it out when i only had about 2k users, it went in 5 days, i now have 6k + and nearly 100 registerations daily so 50,000 would only last about 5 days aswell. So if i were to keep this going i would have to pay 6 X $14 per month for 50,000 credits per 5 days...

yes, he pays a bit.. But the amount of word ads on each forum is a little over the top in my honest opinion. I know mine doesn't have all those. Why?

This is due to a steep rise in hosting costs. The algorithm that decides how it places the number of ads on your forum generally gets is right. Your forum is particularly large and that is why the number of ads on the forum felt an increase recently.
What can we do man? Nobody clicks on ads. Forum owners keep encouraging users to get AdBlockers. Forum owners themselves are using Adblockers more. Certain programs block ad sites. Our ads just aren't getting the same reach anymore at all. With people not clicking or even seeing ads as much anymore the number of them is unfortunately increased for the honest people who see the ads. It's a nasty vicious circle.

I had a lot of problems recently runescape based forums which have resulted a large amount of downtime. Which means I had to purchase additional security systems which cost a ton per month.

yah i totally respect that. i wouldn't mind for you to add more banners. But the word ads just have ruined my entire forum, it changes the color and redirects attention from other things. Now i have to misspell my words on purpose to avoid the work ads where i don't want them.

You could just pay the small amount to make your forum ad-free.

Tell your members if they want the forum ad free to chip in and pay at times too.

You could just pay the small amount to make your forum ad-free. If you have over 1000 active users then ad free doesn't last long.
