you should be able to add a chat to your forum

You can put a chat box in your Header, your Footer, Portal Block or a Board Description area

To do it in your Header or Footer go to:  Admin > Manage Styles > Edit Header/Footer

To do it in a board description create a board for the shoutbox,  paste the shoutbox code in the boards description area.     Its nice to do it this way as you can limit who can see it by the boards permissions

If you are using the Portal System and want it on your portal, make an html block and put the code in there.

You will need to sign up for a shoutbox/chatbox someplace and get the code:

That was not set in stone.    He will let us know if/when that does become possible.
The plan was to do so however it was an extremely expensive way to go;   other important things had to come first (which meant more expenses) and Ads/etc are barely enough to cover expenses as it is.

That would be great to get an intergrated chat. Although if it is not the budget there is nothing anyone can do. (Other than pay themselves)

A couple of choices:

In a board description:   Create a board for the shoutbox,  paste the shoutbox code in the boards description area.     Its nice to do it this way as you can limit who can see it by the boards permissions

Use the Portal:   Make an html block and put the code in there.

I wouldn't be surprised if he does add a Chat systwem.  There are lots of SMF chat rooms he can add; SMF Integrated Chat, FlashChat Integration, and more.

Its been mentioned several times that a chat service is not currently in the budget and won't be added at this time.

Adding the chat is free.

The fact that we'd probably have to buy a new server in order to run the chat, that is several hundred dollars a month.
