If I wanted to change the margins of my forum so that everything (such as when you are viewing a list of topics) fits on one page (instead of some of it being off the page on the right side), is this the section I need to change?

Code:
/* The main body of the entire forum. */
body
{
background-color: #EDECEA;
margin: 0px;
padding: 12px 30px 4px 30px;
background-image: url(http://www.smfboards.com/Themes2/userstyles/LightBrown/pgback.jpg);
}

and is it the "margin part" that determines that width or is it the padding?

change the padding..    Right now its 12px from the top,  4 from the bottom,   30px from the right and left side

No problem and Kim you can also try it this way:
http://www.smfsupport.com/support/stylesheet_codes_and_help/changing_the_forum_width-t3987.0.html;msg19761#msg19761

edit: as an afterthought to my reply in that thread I think its probably a good idea.

I tried using the code from the other topic but all it does it make the overall forum margins change and nothing else. Those margins can be changed by simply increasing the 2nd and 4th parts of the padding code instead of using the 80% code. The 80% code basically shoves everything to the left - but it doesnt change the topic listings. Those still overflow past the right hand side.

From what it looks like on your test site for color guides, that area would be considered WindowBG2. I have messed with that area using different codes - till my eyes are crossed..lol. I tried adding that 80% code to that area - and it made the topic area expand even farther to the right - not sure if that is indicating I am on the right track or not because those areas on the Red Fire stylesheet are just like all the other ones with no special code in them. I know it can be done though because its been done on the Red Fire stylesheet. I just cant figure out how the HECK they did it.. Grin.

Normal css code makes topics expand past the margin (click to enlarge):

hmmmmm...It has to be in the code. Every other stylesheet I have looked at (I installed them all just to see - using the same res ..lol) show the topics way over to the right like that, but crasy's red fire one doesnt. All the topic information is within the margins and I dont have to scroll to the right to see it all. You would think that changing the overall margins would cause those to move over but it doesnt - they stay in the original position..lol

I am stumped.. idiot2

humm..  wellll  they are all centered for me, including red fire.   I just tried it on another system in the house with a different browser, resolution..    Odd

I have the css for your test site, and the css for red fire and Im comparing them.   But er.. if you are seeing them ALL that way that tells me something could be amiss with redfire..   Ill get back with ya.

in the meantime:  whack your monitor

Kimmie.. question for you.   Have you edited the css for redfire at all or is it the code exactly as crasy posted it?  OR was it installed from Manage Styles as a user style?    I am seeing something odd in it and will have to ask crasy about it if you didnt touch it.

I havent done anything with the red fire css as far as the one I am currently using (that I can remember..lol). I cant remember if I installed it from the one crasy posted or if I installed it from the user created styles section.  Grin. I think it was from the one crasy posted. I just installed the red fire one on my test site from the user created section and the topics are way to far to the right like the rest  Grin. They are also both named differently - one is RedFire and the other is redfire.

Ive got my current css up and ive got the red fire one installed (from the user created styles) on my test site. I am gonna go thru that code piece by piece and see whats different. I am also gonna create a new stylesheet and use the one crasy posted and see what happens Smiley

ok I have a general idea of what it is, but I dont know how to change it, or where I even changed it at...lmao. The part where the time/date is - on my current forum wraps to the second line. On the test site it doesnt - making it farther to the right.

look at the differences:

My Current forum stylesheet:

My test site:

I checked the css for:

1.  your forum
2.  the code posted here in the styles area
3.  from the manage styles install

The code is indentical for all three of them.

I then installed it on my test forum on server 3.
The borders are fine in all areas,  and I am seeing no problems with it.

so...   abit confused and not sure why you are seeing it differently.
