I was just wondering if it's possible to install themes from http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/

if so, would the process be generally the same as installing themes that are posted on this board?

Themes are different then styles.  You do not have the ability to install a theme as you are running your forum from a hosted service and they can only be installed by SMFforFree itself.   He will not be installing more Themes

Styles you see here at SMFforFree created by members, and the styles in your Manage Styles are are not THEMES.    They are stylesheets.   They are a different css file that enables us to have a different look of the Default 1.1  Theme.    When using one of the styles you are actually replacing the default stylesheet that defines areas for your forum.     

hope this helps to clear it up a little bit.

If you link us to the theme there...we might be able to imitate the theme. That's the only way you can get close to it.
Could I see? Maybe just out of my own curiosity regarding what theme you like.
