Here is a code for a Translater so other people that know different languages can see your forum.  I did not make this I found it on a website.  So please don't credit me with the making of it because I didn't make it.

All you do is put it into your footers
Code:
<script language="JavaScript1.2" src="http://www.altavista.com/static/scripts/translate_engl.js"></script>

. It looks like a good code, but, and this is just my personal opinion (no offense to our foreign bretheran  Wink), non english speaking members is a headache I dont need..lol. There are plenty of online translators that someone can use. Im not gonna bother adding unnecessary script to my headers/footers  Cool

I put it there mostly to experiment with.  I like to "tinker" around with stuff.

Yea I was thinking the same thing but some people might want to have it.  I also know that it doesn't translate exactly right because English wont translate into other Languages easy.

Useful for administrators that can read several languages and want to cater to more members...without breaking the Terms of Service here.

For the record, your forum must still be totally in english with or without this code. This code can't be used as an excuse to have other languages Wink
Not saying this to anyone in particular, just want to make sure we don't have somebody lose a forum over a misunderstanding.

How does this apply if a non English member posts in their language. What shows. Is the text in their language or does the text appear in English and if so, and we are seeing their post in English, how does it look to the posters and their language?

I am very interested in bringing folks into my forum from International places.

What, how, who, where, does a site translator come in to play without breaking the above rule?

This one may be a better option.   There are others around the net as well.
http://www.smfsupport.com/support/smf_for_free_codes/code_site_translator-t19137.0.html

This way there would be no worry about not following the TOS as the posts would all be in English and they can use this to translate the posts.      The other one (in this thread) sounds to me that you could post in another language and then IT translates it.

Thanks Sibyl.

Yes, if thats the case then will not go that way.

I have seen that other translator. It is so huge and just really clashes on the forum.

Would really like to find something a bit less intrusive.

try one of these maybe:
http://babelfish.yahoo.com/free_trans_service
The one on the right is small and you tell it what language your site is in before you get the code.
Choose English of course
(I dont want onlookers to think this would make it okay to have their site in another language)
