http://absc.smfforfree3.comThe images you edit for your sidebar will be done in a Editing Program..Corel Draw, PhotoShop, GIMP. Once you've posted the code, whether it be in the headers or footers via the instructions for the code you are using, look for the width of the sidebar. That can be adjusted some by changing the number. On my site I have the sidebars a different widths. I have adjusted the shout box or cbox to match the width of the Sidebar by adjusting the cbox code width to match the sidebar code width. The width and height changes are in Blue in the example below.
Example
<table align=center valign=top>
<tr><td height="100%" valign=top>
<table align=center valign=top>
<tr> <
td width="130" valign=top><small>
<center><div class='titlebg2'><b>Welcome!</b></div>
<div class="tablepad" border='1'><span class='desc'><center>

Same for inserting images. Find the width of the sidebar, when you create the image the width should not be the same width as the sidebar rather a few pixels smaller to allow the sidebar to remain the same size. If not then the sidebar will expand in width to allow for the image.
If I can be of any help, let me know. Send me a pm.
