Lately we have had several people put codes in their headers and/or footers and then be unable to access their forums OR have had it wind up redirecting to a search site.

First off BE CAREFUL when you use codes.
The codes you find here are SAFE but if you do not follow the directions EXACTLY as given you could easily find it impossible to access your forum.   Be sure you follow ALL steps.

If the directions for a code told you to put this in your header and you did NOT edit YOUR_FORUM and X in the code you would easily find your forum redirecting to another site and unaccessable to you to fix it:

<script src="http://YOUR_FORUM.smfforfreeX.com/jquery.js"></script>

Should it happen sometimes there is a way around it.

Disable Javascript in your browser and go to your forum.
"Most" of the time you will then be able to login, edit your header and footer and correct the problem.

To disable Javascript in Firefox:
Tools > Options >  Content >  take checkmark out of  "enable Javascript"  in Firefox

To disable Javascript in Internet Explorer:
From the Tools menu, choose Internet Options... .
Click the Security tab.
Click Custom Level... .
Scroll to the "Scripting" section of the list. Click Disable or Enable.
Close and restart your browser.

Another tip is to make a test forum.   Use it to test things on so that you are not messing up your forum.

IMPORTANT NOTE - Dec 17, 2007:   <script src="http://YOUR_FORUM.smfforfreeX.com/jquery.js"></script>  can be replaced with <script src="/jquery.js"></script>     No editing required in that one.

Completly agree with the test forum idea.  Many forums I have messed up from coding.  But Now I have them back because of Disableing Javascript.  I even found some codes I started making when I first learned coding.

Here is another way to get back into your forum...but, It will remove all your codes from the Headers and Footers.

If you want to remove ALL the codes from your Headers, use this:

http://YOUR_FORUM.smfforfreeX.com/index.php?action=style;sa=clearheader
Change YOUR_FORUM to your forum name, and the X to 2, 3 or 4.  If you have a server 1, you will not need a number, so just remove the X.

If you want to remove ALL your codes from your Footers, Use this:

http://YOUR_FORUM.smfforfreeX.com/index.php?action=style;sa=clearfooter
Change YOUR_FORUM to your forum name, and the X to 2, 3 or 4.  If you have a server 1, you will not need a number, so just remove the X.

Moose yep those codes work in some instances.
With the redirect problem though you still have to disable java first before using them.  They'll still redirect and won't let you in.

a "test forum" is just another forum.
Just sign up for a new forum.
Signups are disabled at the moment and most likely will not be enabled until after the server moves are completed and all is working well.

if you don't have the ability to make one just use moose's code to delete your headers/footers.  BTW thanks moose, my test site's side bar messed everything up, but with awesome delete header/footers code rocks.
