Hi,

To start im a noob when it comes to forums so im going on what a mate of mine said.

I play a webbased game called tribalwars, iv seen others adding in codes or something into external forums so that when you type [village](816|723)[/village] it links into the tribalwars server and gets the village information. This can also be done with players and there tribes. I know its a form of bbcode so there should be a way to link it to the forum iv setup here. Iv done alot of searching and your was the one that came out on top by the looks of things with regards to SFM wich is what he says is needed to add in these codes.

My mate has all the codes/files and things but i need to know where he can add all of it in for me.

Any help will go a long way.

Many thanks.

If its html it can be put in the header/footer/a portal block/board description area/news

If its bbcode it can be put in the news/posts/signature block

Hope that helps you.

So adding in the codes into the header and footer (if its html) will affect the text in the posts?

Or if its bbcode it goes in the  news/posts/signature block and that should apply to the text you add into your posts? Or is that only for the signatures?

I hope im making sense here.

No.     If you add them to the header or footer what you add will appear only in the header or footer area of the forum.   Unless you are using some code that changes some area of the forum.  Since I do not know what the code is, I have no way to know that  Wink

if you use bbcode in a post it will appear only in that post
if you use bbcode in your signature it will appear at the bottom of your posts in the signature area.
Note that not everyting is going to work in the sig block.. or a post for that matter.   Again I dont know what the code is you are wanting to use.   IF you could give us more information about that it would help us to help you with this  Wink

Ok, iv got a bit more info on it.

How it works is that i download the world (or game) data from the server, iv then got to upload it to the server where the forum is hosted and then mod the forum to link the bbcodes to that world data wich is store in a text file.   Undecided

From what i know from free forums they dont allow people to upload data files to the server. From what iv been told its a text file that stores all the players, villages and tribes stats, names and details. Its about 10mb last time my mate checked.

Will i be allowed to upload files to the server/forum database. If not i think im out of luck and am going to have to pay someone to do it for me.

thanks for the replies so far..  Cheesy

No I do not know of a place that will allow you to do that and if I did it would be detrimental to this service for me to post that..  I would not do so even through a pm  Wink

Thanks for the compliments btw.    The staff does try to get back to you in a timely manner and there are a lot of people using the support forum who help out answering questons as well.  I have used other hosting services and not had nearly the quality of support that is given here.

Have you seen the Custom BBCode code?

Not sure how that would help him (unless I am missing something)
Did you read this part of his post?

Yeah, iv chatted to my mate and he says i have to upload the data onto the forums server, and then write in code to fetch the info from the file. it also has to be update about once every 3 odd days. so its rather a pain.

I fully understand why you cant give me other sites Tongue And apart from my mental holiday while i asked I agree with not giving it out. Tongue Im a computer technician (hardware) and it would be like me telling a vlient to go to another technician.

 Cool

I think i take more than others.

I just thought of something. Its more work but might work.

Instead of trying to add things onto the server i could do it this way.. well for this game atleast and it does sort of solve my problem to. just a bit more admin.

842|715
Code:
[url=http://en10.tribalwars.net/staemme.php?village=240368&screen=info_village&id=236305]842|715[/url]

It still links to the village / tribe / player i want. its just alot more involved than just putting in [village](842|715)[/village].

I take it there is no way to tell the forum that when i type in [village](842|715)[/village] it must display 842|715   ? Basically it does all the
Code:
[url=http://en10.tribalwars.net/staemme.php?village=240368&screen=info_village&id=236305]842|715[/url]
typing for me?

Forgive me if i sound stupid here but all this is new to me.
