General Support / Cancelling my account

I'm aware the above referenced account will be deleted due to inactivity...however, I just wanted to let you guys know (ahead of time) I will no longer be needing the free SMF forum account.  I appreciate all you have done but, I've decided to get my own domain name, as well as host...and will continue from there.

I have removed all threads/posts, categories/boards, and all members except Admins.  New registrations have been disabled for this forum, too.

Thanks, again, for the service...good luck!

General Chat / Arcade scores

I have to laugh... :2funny:

This guy, lyncsta, who started this thread:  HACKED SMF ARCADE and posted only once...brags about it.

Nobody fixes the score in the arcade...and nobody bans him...

This was over two years ago...

Granted...he's only posted once but, what happened to the moderation?  Was the Staff asleep that day?  I use the arcade on my board...and if it got hacked...I'd remove it.

You add something to your board for everyone to enjoy and it only takes one to ruin it for everybody.

People need to realize that what a board offers you is for your benefit and enjoyment...yet, there are those bound and determined to destroy it for everyone.

He probably used a browser add-on for Firefox (and I will not post what it is) that manipulates the script and adds his own scores.

Anyway...over two years have passed and the game scores remain...and this guy was never banned...

End Rant...still laughing, though... :2funny:

Graphics / Free logo software

Not sure where to post this...and not sure if it's considered spam but, I used it to design the logo on my site.  Granted...the mascot is a separate image, but together with this free program...it went smooth as silk.  If I am in violation. please...feel free to remove this thread.

The software is called "The Logo Creator", from LaughingBird Software.  If you're a Facebook user...you can get it by going to their Facebook page:  http://www.facebook.com/Laughingbird.Software

Just "Like" the page and you'll be directed where to download the software.  Of course, the images within this free version are very limited.  However, you can import your own images and use system fonts or the program's installed fonts to create your logo.

This free software is not available on their site...just at Facebook.  Hopefully, you'll find it as I have...simple and easy to use...best of all...FREE!

Enjoy!

My avatar appears fine in my profile on the SMF For Free Support Forum...but looks squashed anywhere else.  It's a 65x65 pixel .png avatar.

Why can't we have this installed?

General Support / User registration issue
« on: May 09, 2011, 01:21:57 am »
Forum Url: http://glitchpc.freesmfhosting.com/index.php
I just had a member of this board contact me through this site...because I have no means of guests contacting me through my forum.  It was due to a registration issue...specifically, reCAPTCHA.  I have no control over the reCAPTCHA settings, other than to disable it or change the severity of the images.  I tried switching from the medium setting to the simple setting but, it won't let me.  This user also complained that letters were showing up in the reCAPTCHA image that don't even appear on his keyboard...and he has tried to register 9-10 times on my forum.

I had previously started a thread about a Contact Us form.  I, now, have a new issue...

Not having a means of contact on my forum is a real "bummer".  Nobody really wants to use a their own e-mail client for contact purposes...PHP Form Mail is the way to go.  We paid for the upgrade on our account...and it removed the branding and ads...and, also,  gave us extra features but, what we really need is a means for our guests to contact us through the site.

I, initially, thought free forum hosting may be the way to go...but, it looks like it's not all it's cracked up to be.

While the support here is "awesome"...there needs to be more control given to the Administrators of one's own board.  In the interim, I think I've found someone who is going to host my site for free...I already have the domain name and was going to park it here but, as you can see...it's not very likely.

I'm really not one to complain but, as you can see...having issues, such as this one, is not something an Administrator should have to deal with...especially if the issue is not under their control.

Advertise Your Board / Glitch PC - Free Computer Help
« on: May 07, 2011, 02:34:45 pm »
Forum Url: http://glitchpc.freesmfhosting.com/index.php
We've been around since 2008 and have had our share of ups and downs but...now we're back!

There are a lot of "free computer help" websites out there.  We're not looking to compete with any of them.  We just want our little corner of the world and we're willing to make all who register feel right at home.

So...why not stop by and give us the once over.  We're in the process of recruiting new members and Staff.

Thanks, in advance for your constructive and/or destructive criticism... :2funny:

Question...

Most forum/site webmasters usually have links in their footers to relevant information.  Now, I can see that EzPortal will let me create pages and then add links to them by modifying the footer css for each theme.

One thing I have noticed, though...is that there is no way (that I can see) for an end user to contact a forum administrator should they have problems with registration, want to contact the site owner, or just ask a question and/or leave feedback.

Am I missing something in the Admin control panel?  I have searched your Source Code Guide for something I could use, but I don't see anything that would create a php form page with contact information on it.

Any suggestions?

General Support / Adding SMF smileys

At least I'm keeping things jumping... ;D

Anyhow, I followed the guide for adding the SMF smileys you guys and gals had listed in your Guide FAQ section for installing the smileys you use here on this board.  I followed the instructions to the letter and ended up with the following (see image):

Can somebody tell me what happened...and how I can fix it?  Thanks, in advance...

Stylesheet Requests and Support / Question regarding Styles
« on: May 06, 2011, 11:07:06 am »
Forum Url: http://glitchpc.freesmfhosting.com/index.php
I recently added a couple of Styles through the Admin interface.  I can see in the Admin interface how to change the style but, not within my profile.

It says it's installed and to click a link to start using it but, how does a regular member select it?

My apologies if this has already been asked and answered.

Came across the following on the board...

So you've arrived at this SMF For Free Forum (SMF For Free)! Perhaps you've been looking at the board index or a screen telling you that you need to register before you can read it and you're wondering what to do next?

Any way to edit/remove this?

General Support / Issues with Chat after upgrade
« on: May 05, 2011, 01:41:45 am »
Forum Url: http://glitchpc.freesmfhosting.com/index.php
I've noticed the following about your chat upgrade service:

  • Admin Chat options are very limited
  • If using apostrophe, quotes, or backslash...you get an unwanted backslash inserted into your chat conversation
  • Cannot disable other languages
  • No bad word filter
  • Cannot change the name of the Chat
  • Cannot embed Chat into forum
  • "Integrated with SMF" link points to who's website?  It's a Persian website.  Why is that there?
  • Cannot remove any of the Chat rooms, either

The above represents some serious issues that need to be addressed...if they haven't already.  You'll have to admit...if we're paying for the Ultimate package, then our concerns should be addressed...correct?

The legacy portal and the ezportal both have issues....

First, the Legacy portal will not accept the widths I try to set for the left, center, and right columns.

The ezPortal has an issue with the blocks created.  Some of the collapse buttons appear outside their respective boxes and the blocks don't line up, either..  The settings don't take when you try to remove the collapse option, or if you change the visible pages.  I have since disabled the portals, which is one of the main reasons I decided to give you guys a go.  I know, I know...what do I expect for free, right?

Anyhow...you guys are claiming to be running the latest SMF software...and 2.01 is not the latest release for SMF's CMS.  The latest version is 2.0 RC5.  The latest stable release is 2.0 RC4.  I suggest you might want to update the forums.

Also, a lot of the addons you're using are on by default...and should be off so that we can choose what we want to add.  For instance...the Facebook "Like" feature is enabled and I can't for the life of me find a way to disable it.  Granted...I was an avid vBulletin user, but since SMF is free...I decided to give it a shot.

I guess the best thing for me to do is wait until I can afford my own domain name and hosting...and go that route.  That way, I don't have to deal with the issues your service currently has.  Since I can't delete the forum, I guess I'll just remove all of the posts and hope the forum gets removed.

I appreciate you guys letting me startup my forum but, until you get all of the kinks out...I'm just going to look elsewhere...
