General Support / Cancelling my account

I'm aware the above referenced account will be deleted due to inactivity...however, I just wanted to let you guys know (ahead of time) I will no longer be needing the free SMF forum account.  I appreciate all you have done but, I've decided to get my own domain name, as well as host...and will continue from there.

I have removed all threads/posts, categories/boards, and all members except Admins.  New registrations have been disabled for this forum, too.

Thanks, again, for the service...good luck!

Wonder if SMF has seen this thread?

Definitely not a cookie/cache issue.  Same thing happening on our forum.

General Chat / Re: Arcade scores

On a similar note...there were a few people still active and not "banned" who have hacked the arcade with bogus scores...it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. :2funny:

General Chat / Arcade scores

I have to laugh... :2funny:

This guy, lyncsta, who started this thread:  HACKED SMF ARCADE and posted only once...brags about it.

Nobody fixes the score in the arcade...and nobody bans him...

This was over two years ago...

Granted...he's only posted once but, what happened to the moderation?  Was the Staff asleep that day?  I use the arcade on my board...and if it got hacked...I'd remove it.

You add something to your board for everyone to enjoy and it only takes one to ruin it for everybody.

People need to realize that what a board offers you is for your benefit and enjoyment...yet, there are those bound and determined to destroy it for everyone.

He probably used a browser add-on for Firefox (and I will not post what it is) that manipulates the script and adds his own scores.

Anyway...over two years have passed and the game scores remain...and this guy was never banned...

End Rant...still laughing, though... :2funny:

Graphics / Free logo software

Not sure where to post this...and not sure if it's considered spam but, I used it to design the logo on my site.  Granted...the mascot is a separate image, but together with this free program...it went smooth as silk.  If I am in violation. please...feel free to remove this thread.

The software is called "The Logo Creator", from LaughingBird Software.  If you're a Facebook user...you can get it by going to their Facebook page:  http://www.facebook.com/Laughingbird.Software

Just "Like" the page and you'll be directed where to download the software.  Of course, the images within this free version are very limited.  However, you can import your own images and use system fonts or the program's installed fonts to create your logo.

This free software is not available on their site...just at Facebook.  Hopefully, you'll find it as I have...simple and easy to use...best of all...FREE!

Enjoy!

I was linking to the avatar, here, based on the image info from my forum.  I have since taken the original image...re-sized it...and uploaded it, here.

All appears fine, now.

Let me make the same adjustment on my site and you can tell me if that works, now.

As i view it on my forum...it appears fine in both my profile...and in posts.  It only appears squashed, here, on this forum.

My avatar appears fine in my profile on the SMF For Free Support Forum...but looks squashed anywhere else.  It's a 65x65 pixel .png avatar.

General Support / User registration issue
« on: May 09, 2011, 01:21:57 am »
Forum Url: http://glitchpc.freesmfhosting.com/index.php
I just had a member of this board contact me through this site...because I have no means of guests contacting me through my forum.  It was due to a registration issue...specifically, reCAPTCHA.  I have no control over the reCAPTCHA settings, other than to disable it or change the severity of the images.  I tried switching from the medium setting to the simple setting but, it won't let me.  This user also complained that letters were showing up in the reCAPTCHA image that don't even appear on his keyboard...and he has tried to register 9-10 times on my forum.

I had previously started a thread about a Contact Us form.  I, now, have a new issue...

Not having a means of contact on my forum is a real "bummer".  Nobody really wants to use a their own e-mail client for contact purposes...PHP Form Mail is the way to go.  We paid for the upgrade on our account...and it removed the branding and ads...and, also,  gave us extra features but, what we really need is a means for our guests to contact us through the site.

I, initially, thought free forum hosting may be the way to go...but, it looks like it's not all it's cracked up to be.

While the support here is "awesome"...there needs to be more control given to the Administrators of one's own board.  In the interim, I think I've found someone who is going to host my site for free...I already have the domain name and was going to park it here but, as you can see...it's not very likely.

I'm really not one to complain but, as you can see...having issues, such as this one, is not something an Administrator should have to deal with...especially if the issue is not under their control.

Basically, I'd like to see some form of PHP Form Mail...not something that uses the end-user's e-mail client.  That's why I'm not currently using that code, sybil.

What I'd like to use is a site form which is filled out by the user and sent through the site...like the registration confirmation e-mail.  That uses PHP...not a user's e-mail client.

Any other suggestions?
