I Access EzPortal Admin
1. Go to your admin panel.
2. Scroll Down to EzPortal.
3. Click Settings.
II Settings
1. Enable Portal Home Page, or not.
Remember, in EzPortal you can have blocks on all of your pages, inclusing the Forum, Gallery, Boards, etc.
2. Custom Homepage Title
Give the Home Page a name if you wish to use it.
This isn't the Tab name, but the name displayed at the top of your browser.
3. Hide admin delete/edit buttons.
Hides delete/edit images on ezblocks.
4. Shoutbox settings: should be self explanatory
Enable Shoutbox
Show date on shoutbox
Show shout history link
Hide says on shoutbox
Hide admin delete shout entry
Number of items to show per page on shoutbox history
Show BBC box icons for shoutbox
Show smilies on shoutbox
Shoutbox refresh time in seconds (Enter zero to disable)
5. Allow EzPortal.com to collect stats on your Portal
Set as you wish
III Modules
There are no modules to install.
IV EzBlock Manager
1. Click Add EzBlock where you want your block to be.
2. You now pick which one you want.
The following EzBlocks are available: (setup for each explained further down in the Guide)
HTML, Board News, UserBox, Poll, Recent Posts, Recent Topics, Recent Webpages, Search, Theme Select (contains only the default theme so not needed), Members Online, Shoutbox, SMF Arcade, SMF Articles (not installed), SMF Gallery, SMF Gallery Random Image, SMF Links, SMF Classifieds (if you purchased it), Downlaod System (not installed), SMF Store (if you purchased it), and Tag Cloud (not installed), Stats, Recent Members, Top Posters
V Changing a Column's width
To change the width of a column, go to EzBlock manager, then find the column on the block list and click Edit Column.
EzBlock Settings
Block Title: The Name that will appear on top of the block.
Column: Where you want it to appear on selected pages, Left, Center, Right, Top, Bottom
Icon: The icon that will show up on the block.
Visible Areas (at the bottom of the block settings if you edit it after creation): what pages the block will be visible on.
Permissions: Who can view the block.
EzBlock Managers: Who can edit the block.
User Can Collapse this EzBlock: Whether or not a member can minimize a block, like using the subtraction sign on you browser.
Board News Settings
Block Title: Type a Title for the Block
Icon: The icon that will show up on the block.
Select Board for News: Select the Board(s) you want the news displayed from. To selct multiple boards, please hold control and click on all of the ones you want.
Number of News Items to show: How many News articles will appear.
Number of characters to show per entry: The number of letters and symbols to show before stopping the article, they can still go to the actual topic to read the full article.
HTML EzBlock Settings
Block Data: Put your HTML code here.
UserBox Settings
No block-specific settings.
Poll EzBlock Settings
Poll Topic ID: The Topic number of the poll the block is to show. For example, this is topic number 25774, it will be in the URL of the topic.
Recent Posts EzBlock Settings
Number of Posts to show: The number of recent posts that will be listed in the block.
Format: Vertical or Horizontal. This is the format in which they will be listed.
Vertical is recommended for the left and right column, Horizontal for the center column.
Recent Topics EzBlock Settings
Number of Topics to show: The number of recent topics that will be listed in the block.
Format: Vertical or Horizontal. This is the format in which they will be listed.
Vertical is recommended for the left and right column, Horizontal for the center column.
Recent Webpages EzBlock Settings
Number of WebPages to show: The number of recent webpages to show.
Search EzBlock Settings
No block-specific settings.
Theme Select EzBlock
Show Preview Image: Whether it will preview the theme or not.
There is only one theme to choose from Stylesheets can not be chosen from this block
Members Online Settings
Format: Whether it will be a vertical or horizonatal block.
Shoutbox Settings
Number of Shouts to show: How many recent shouts will be displayed, this is also the block you shout from.
SMF Aracde EzBlock Settings
Arcade Block Type: Whether the block will show a random game, or if it will show the Latest Scores. This is technically two blocks.
SMF Galley EzBlock Settings
No block-specific settings.
SMF Gallery Random Image Settings
Number of Images to show: the number of pictures to be displayed.
Number of Items per row: The number of items in each row. So, if you put 4 for the previous, and two here, it will be a box of four.
SMF Links EzBlock Settings
Number of Links to show: The number of links to be displayed.
SMF Classifieds EzBlock Settings
SMF Classifieds is a paid upgrade, don't use it if you don't have it!
Number of Listings to show: The number of Classifieds listings that will be displayed in the block.
Number of items to per row: The number of items there will be in a row.

For what you said in the PM, could I jsut show the forum with the blocks on it, withour getting rid of the home page, and then not show just left or just right but tell nthem that they can?

Sure that sounds good. I think it would be good to show the different ways it can be done.
I have it setup on one of my forums with a column on the left and the forum on the right, no homepage.
I can post that as well - its not an active forum - or Ill set up a simple demo with the default theme on it to do that.
Also.. do not divide it and make two guides -- I think that is how I took the pm? They would have to go to two separate guides that way. I can help you with getting this one all formatted once you have all of the information in it if you like. No rush.

The Board News Block?
When you create the Block you choose which Board you want the news to be displayed from.
Click on it in the list on that page to select it.

so you were able to get multiple news boards?
wondered about that myself. I had seen it requested at the EzPortal Support Forum but did not realize he had done so? Will have to check that out and if that does work add a note in the section for selecting the Board to display the news from.

Make sure to add to that section of the Guide that you can choose multiple boards, and how ok?

Legacy Portal was the first Portal SMF for Free made for the forums.
EzPortal is much better and yes abit more complicated because of that. However it does have more to it, including Permissions, a Shoutbox, etc and is a much better system.

I also replied to you're thread in the Support board, here is the Steps you should have gone through when adding a Block.
Admin CP > EzPortal > Settings > Enable Home Page.
EzPortal > EzBlock Manager
From there you should have clicked the link "Add EzBlock" for either the Left,Center, or Right Column, then chose which type of block you wanted to add, Clicked add EzBlock, then filled out the settings for that Block and it should be added, but also check my Reply to you're question in the Support board.

SMF for Free updates it and all other mods as necessary. I realize it says its out of date, however sometimes new versions arent that necessary (have options you would not be able to use, or just minor updates) He'll take care of it as needbe.

No settings to do that. It shows only the topic link, member name, date - same for Recent Posts block. Their purpose is to show a list (as you currently see it) of recent topics/posts.
You'ld need to use a Board News Block - you can choose more then one Board to show the news from - only settings are "Number of characters to show per entry" and "Number of News items to Show"
