Tips for Using Support

          NOTE:
Remember that the people that help out here are Volunteers and do so when they have the free time.
Your questions will be answered, sometimes very quickly,  but please remember they could be busy helping
someone else.    They will get to your question as soon as they can, so please do not keep bumping your topic.

1 - Help us to help you.
Tell us everything we need to know to help you out.
Getting an error message?  Post the message.
Tell us step by step what happened.
Show us screenshots, give us any information you can.
"Help! I have a problem with my forum" , "it won't work"  gives us no information and does not help us to help you.

2 - Leave your forum url.
We sometimes need to check your forum to help you with the problem.
You will notice when typing a post there is a place to put in your forums url.

3 - Make the Subject of your post reflect the problem.
It will help others who may be searching for an answer to the same problem.
It will help those who help out here to find your topic if they need to add more replies to it.
They won't if you put  "What is this?"  or "Oh my God"  or "I need help"  in the Subject line

4 - Do a Forum Search
Use the Support forums search feature.   Many questions/answers are already here.
Many times you will find your answer faster then waiting for a reply.

5 - Check the Guide Indexes and General Support FAQ.
They are stickied to the top of:
General Support -  General Support FAQ (http://www.smfsupport.com/support/general_support/general_support_faq-t4140.0.html;msg20515#msg20515)

6 - If your Support Question is related to a Code
Check the Guide for the Code you need the help with.   Double check your code.
Read thru the threads as there may be others who have had a similar issue and the answer may be
there.    If you still need help reply to that thread rather then make a new topic.

7 -  If you are sure that a code has caused an issue with your forum
Before posting a topic go to this thread and follow the steps in it:
Code Messed Your Forum Up?  Check here FIRST! (http://www.smfsupport.com/support/smf_for_free_codes_and_support/code_messed_your_forum_up_check_here_first-t8348.0.html)
