Because uploading smileys directly was disabled a very long time ago.   It was abused, way too many used, and it slowed the forums down.   This Guides a workaround - a way for us to be able to use different ones as its all we got.

You can do it using a sub sub sub album as you said you have.

If that "last" sub album is named "Halloween Smileys"   the url would be the url MINUS that subalbum name at the end of it.   You have to name the smiley set the same name as the sub album in order for it to work as well.

And is there a way to add more smileys to posts if so how would you get the smiley codes ex/ :roll45:

You can't add more.  You can only replace the existing ones

Read the Troubleshooting section of the Guide
Go thru the Guide step by step and doublecheck your settings
If that does not help leave your forum url and any imformation you can give us to help us figure out why.

Mine did the same thing as hers it turned into words?  Sad  I did it exactly how it said to do it,
I rechecked it three different times, all I have instead of smileys is words with an x in the
box?   Please help?  Cry  our url---->  http://thesecretcove.smfforfree4.com/index.php

Thanks ahead of time...  starchildxox  Roll Eyes

p.s. I also have the extra smiley box with these smileys, they came out perfect! Is that my
problem?  Can't I have both?  BTW... LaundryLady is already a member, we needed help once before....  Roll Eyes

                                     again Thanks xx

Forum Url: http://http://thesecretcove.smfforfre.smfforfree.com
This is the address of the url in photo bucket and this is what i put in... http://s442.photobucket.com/albums/qq148/secretcove/
(I also tryed it without secretcove at the end, it still produced the same thing, boxes, with the names, and a small x)

That is the username, and the name of the album, as far as I know, photo bucket didn't give me an option to name the album
anything else, I'm assuming because it is a new account?   Not another added to an existing account, could that be my problem?
Because as I stated, I have troubleshooted three different times, following it step by step, and still coming back with boxes with
the name of each smiley and a little x inside, I know I named each smiley right, because I copied and pasted the new names in?

                                                            Thanks starchildxox

The names are not correct.
For example you have "undecidedgif.gif"      That should be "undecided.gif"    I checked several of them and they are all named that way.... need to get that first  "gif" off there.

The url.  That url is correct however the location of the smileys will not work.

The smileys have to be in a sub album, not the main album.
On the left hand side at Photobucket you should see a place to add a new album.   Type in the name for the album and click Save.   After creating it move the smileys into THAT album.
The name of that album will be the name of the new smiley set you create.

And I will create a sub album with the correct names as well!
                                  Thanks again....  starchildxox  Roll Eyes

Ok now I'm really confused...  Shocked  I went to my file, in the file it only shows exactly what I copied,
such as afro.gif, I thought well maybe it's because I copied and pasted when I renamed them?  So
I right clicked renamed each smiley again such as afro.gif, went back to my photobucket album, created
a new album from that album, named the new album secrets, uploaded a smiley... and still, instead of the
smiley's name being afro.gif, it once again is afrogif.gif?

Thanks starchildxox (and sorry for being such a pain)  Sad

Oh I just figured it out and it worked!  For anyone else who needs to know, if you have this same problem?
just name the simley afro. leave off the gif and photobucket then adds the gif!  Hence afro.gif!   buck2

Thanks starchildxox (once again.. sorry for being a pain)  Roll Eyes

When you rename them do not type in the file extension.
For instance.. when you rename afrogif.gif
Only type in:   afro
It already knows the file extension  (gif)

You are welcome.
Use this as the Base Url:  http://s442.photobucket.com/albums/qq148/secretcove/
When you create the smiley set in Smileys and Message Icons > Smiley Sets name it:  secrets
Remember to go to Admin > Current Theme and choose "secrets" as the default set for the theme

Nevermind --- my clue has arrived Smiley

Admin > Smileys and Message icons > Edit Smileys
Write down the filenames you see there.
for example:afro.gif  angel.gif angry.gif  azn.gif cheesy.gif

After you have written down all of the filenames rename your smileys to the same names you just wrote down.
Your new smileys MUST be named the exact same names as the smileys that exist on your forum.

Hi!  Please forgive my ignorance - but when you *say* to write down the file names....
Where do you write them down to upload to photobucket?  I am very confused on this part.  I wrote them down on a piece of paper, I wrote down on a word document - I am not sure where exactly to write the file names down to upload them - I tried just writing the filenames in photobucket - but of course that didn't work.  I am really sorry to be so confused - but I asked my husband (Mr. Unix-Guru) if he understood and of course he gave me the look of this is your territory, I don't know... Could someone please explain ?

Thank you.
