I hope that this will help you all.

In order to post video's from YouTube, you need to use the flash button.  It's above the smiles and it looks like this:

When you click on it you will get a code that looks like this:

[ flash=200,200][ /flash]

In between the opening and closing tags, is where you have to post your URL:

[ flash=200,200]YOUR VIDEO URL GOES HERE[ /flash]

To make the video screen larger, change the 200,200 to any number you like.  I would say 600 is about the largest you would want.

[ flash=600,600]YOUR VIDEO URL GOES HERE[ /flash]

Now you are ready to get your URL VIDEO CODE.

On the YouTube page, next to the video screens, you will see two sets of code.

The first one is a straight URL, and only provides a link to the page for that particular video and it looks like this:

You do not want to use the above code

The second one is embedded code and you can use part of it between the flash tags to make the video play on the forum.

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yCg3ye2bMMA"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yCg3ye2bMMA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Looks a mess, doesn't it?  Well you only need a tiny bit of it.

Select all, copy and paste into Notepad or any word document.  You aren't going to save it so it doesn't matter.

Select the portion that you want, copy and paste it between the flash codes.  The portion that you want is in bold below.

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yCg3ye2bMMA"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yCg3ye2bMMA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

When you are done and before you post it you should see this:

[ flash=200,200]http://www.youtube.com/v/yCg3ye2bMMA[ /flash]

If you have done it correctly, you should be seeing something like what I have below:

I have done mine in the default size of 200. If you need help, I'll be happy to help you.

LL

NOTE:I have used spaces after the [* flash and [* /flash to enable the codes to show.  Don't use spaces there.

I believe that the ability to show the full flash is disabled on this board, but as long as you have yours enabled, and follow the instructions it should work.

You can also embed that code of the video inside a board description and it will show up there. Not sure if people want to do that but I put this flash in mine just as you stated here LL and watched it and had the opportunity to see 5 videos not just one. just a thought.

LL.. great idea you have here. Smiley Thanks for Sharing. Smiley

What I like about doing it my way is your peeps don't have to leave your site to see the video.

It should, you just need the url to the vid.  The reason I used the YouTube is because they mess with their url and you have to dig to get the right one.  I haven't tried the Google ones.

Hi there! Before, the only way we can embed Youtube videos was to copy and paste the URL link
and then higlight the whole link and click on the Insert Hyperlink code.

Recently, I found that its no longer necessary to use that particular code. A simple copy and paste of the Youtube URL link suffices.

But with the introduction of the Canadian version (as we are a Canadian forum),
it is necessary to delete ".ca"  from the URL as in http://ca.youtube.com
just to successfully embed the video.

We are using the flash code, so we don't do the embed code in posts.  The guide was for putting them in the posting sections as opposed to the headers and footers.

I have not tried Google videos so I am afraid I can't help you there.  If you can find the URL of the video itself it might work.

I cant get it to do either thing.  Cheesy
Thanks for any help with this.

This is an older Guide.  With the last update to the service, you should have auto embed of videos on your forum.

I thought Youtube videos(the links that have the videos on them) are eaten(...) by the PHP than excreted as a video? I tried it on a forum once, and it played back as a video. Is there some setting that controls this?

THis is an old Guide Kalphite and no longer needed.    A video embed mod was added to the forums awhile back.  Now when you post a YouTube link in a post it automatically embeds the video into the post.
