If you wish to upload smileys to your forum you can purchase the smiley upgrade. Click on the "Upgrade this Forum" link at the bottom of your forum or go to Admin>Addons & Upgrades to purchase the upgrade.
To use the smileys you see here at Support:
Step 1:
- Admin > Smileys and Message Icons > Settings tab.
Base URL to all smiley sets: Copy this url - put it in as the base url: http://www.smfboards.com/Smileys/
Note: Be sure this url is EXACTLY as above.. no spaces before or after or it will NOT work
Put a checkmark for : enable customized smileys
Click Save
Step 2:
- Click the Smiley Sets tab
Click New Smiley Set button
Put smf in both boxes
Checkmark both blocks
Save Changes
NOTE: If you get this message ignore it, the smileys are already in the directory:
Unable to import smiley set. Either the directory is invalid or cannot be accessed.
Step 3:
- Click Current Theme
Select default smiley set for this theme: Use the dropdown box and choose smf
Click Save
Your smileys will now be in place.
Step 4:
- There are 10 additional smileys you can add:
:2funny: :buck2: :coolsmiley: :crazy2: :idiot2: :knuppel2: :smiley6600: :smitten: :tickedoff: :uglystupid2:
To add them:
Click the Add Smiley tab
Make sure it says Using Smiley set smf in the dropdown
Using the second dropdown (that says filename to the right of it) browse thru the smileys to find
the rest of them. When you find one you want:
Put a code for it:
explanation: code for :) is
Code: [Select]
:)- you can put words there
Put a Tooltip or description for it: (just something to describe it)
Click Save Changes

How to put your smileys back to Default
In case you decide to put your smileys back to the forum default smileys.
Admin > Smileys and Message Icons
1. Click the Settings tab.
Default Smiley Set: Change it to Default.
Base URL to all smiley sets: Use http://text.smfforfree.com/Smileys for the base url.
NOTE Replace text.smfforfree.com with YOUR forums url.
Do not leave a space at the end of it when pasting it in.
Click Save.
2. Click the Smiley Sets tab.
Make sure there is an asterick (*) beside the Default Set.
3. Admin > Current Theme:
Select default smiley set for this theme: Choose Default in the dropdown box.
Click Save.
That is all there is to putting them back to default.

i dont get step 2. "put smf in both boxes" what does that mean? because it shows up with the smfboards.com/smileys/ thing at the top, anf if i put smf in the box it comes up with an error.

I only get the first 16 SMF smileys (ends with the crying smiley). I do not get any smiley after that one.
Check Edit Smileys - see if any are set to Hidden... if so set them to Post Area.
then Check Add Smileys - the other 6 that you should have being on smfforfree3.com should be there.

I deleted the other post.. sorry but there is just no reason to post the same question in two different places.. it gets too confusing.
The best thing to do is start over from scratch with the Guide. Go through each step, one step at a time.
If you check Step 3 you will see there are 22 smileys you will have.
If you do NOT have all 22 of them check Edit Smileys to see which ones you DO have... check down the row to see if any are set to hidden, if so change them to post area. If you only have 19 in Edit smileys go to Add smileys and check the names there. Find the ones that you do not have and add them. The guide tells you how to do that.
Admin > Smileys and Message Icons
You will find both Edit Smileys and Add Smiley there on the tab bar
Click Add Smiley - Open the dropdown box next to "filename" Count the number of smileys there... there should be 22.
Click Edit Smileys - Count how many you have there - if its less then 22 then you need to figure out by going back and forth tween "add" and "edit" which ones are missing and add them in under Add Smiley.

Underneath forum in the Admin CP, click on Smileys and Message Icons and enable customized smileys.
After that is enabled, put this in the box for Base URL to all smiley sets:
http://www.smfboards.com/Smileys/
And then you continue with the guide :)

When i click the link http://www.smfboards.com/Smileys/ , it always opens up, but only to a white screen. Why doesn't it fully load?
You dont have access to that folder to see what is in it by clicking on it.
All you need to do as far as that url is concerned is to follow the guide and put it in as the base url as it says in the guide. If you follow each step it will work fine

yea i do aswell WRONG LINK!It's not the wrong link, you dont have to click it. Just put it in the spot for Base URL to all smiley sets, Theres not supposed to be anything there when you click it, its just a URL for your smileys ;)

Use the Filename dropdown box to find any that you do not already have set up (if you do not have them all)
Also check the Smiley Sets link - you should have Default, Classic, and smf

its probably only for people who bought the smiley sets in the upgrade thingy for their forum.Possibly its for those people who bought that?
No.. When you purchase the upgrade you do not buy "sets" You upload smileys from your computer. The folder they go into is specifically for your forum. It wouldnt have anything to do with that. Ive left the Administrator a note to see what is going on with that. Really strange.

After following that link it looks like I would lose my other set..I don't want to do that..I have 24 emoticons. But I may consider doing the upgrade. How much just for a emoticon upgrade?

The xtra ones will not work on all of SMF for Free's servers. Your forum is on freesmfhosting.com - they do not work on that server ;) They do work on smfforfree.com, smfforfree2.com and smfforfree3.com.
You can use smileys from an external site (such as Photobucket) but you need to follow this Guide to do that:
