Custom Smileys Help
How to Replace your Smileys This Guide will walk you through the steps to do this.
It is important that you follow every step in the Guide exactly.
IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS: Read the
TROUBLESHOOTING section at the bottom of this post and doublecheck your work before asking for support.
Step 1: - Go to Admin > Smileys and Message Icons > Settings
Put a checkmark in: Enable Customized Smileys
Click Save Settings.
- Admin > Smileys and Message icons > Edit Smileys
Write down the filenames you see there.
for example:afro.gif angel.gif angry.gif azn.gif cheesy.gif
After you have written down all of the filenames rename your smileys to the same names you just wrote down.
Your new smileys MUST be named the exact same names as the smileys that exist on your forum.
Step 2: - Now you need a host for your smileys. Photobucket works very well for this.
Use your exisiting Photobucket acct, or make one if you do not have one.
At Photobucket make an album to place your smilies in.
NOTE: The name you choose for the album will also be the name of your new smiley set
Upload the smileys into the album.
Step 3: - Admin Panel > Smileys, and Message Icons. (Picture below)
1. Click on the Smiley Sets Tab.
2. Click on the New Smiley Set Button.
3. In the Name box put the name of the album you created at Photobucket.
4. In the url box put the exact same name.
5. Check mark the Default Smiley Set box.
6. Click Save Changes.
Step 4: - Click the Settings tab. (picture below)
1. In the box for Base url: Put your photobucket address.
NOTE: Leave OFF the album name. It only needs to know your Photobucket address.
If your smileys are in http://myphotobucketaccount/myname/mysmileys
then put only http://myphotobucketaccount/myname in as the base url
IMPORTANT: Be sure there are no spaces before or after the url when you paste it into the box.
click Save Changes.
2. Click the Settings tab again.
3. Choose the smileyset in the Default Smiley Set dropdown box: (the name of the album you created)
4. Click Save
Step 5: - Click Current Theme
Select default smiley set for this theme : Choose your new smiley set (the name of the album you made)
- Your smileys are now installed.
Once you are sure your smileys are working you can go to the add smileys section and add the ones that are not already listed in edit smilies. Write down the additional filenames, upload the additional smilies.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
1. Did you name your smileys the exact same names as the existing smileys?
(see Step 1)
2. What address did you put in as the base url?

then put only
http://myphotobucketaccount/myname in as the base url.
3. Did you name the new smiley set the SAME name as the sub album the smileys are in at photobucket?
a. using the above example your new smiley set name would be "mysmileys"
b. the forum will look in http://myphotobucketaccount/myname for the "mysmileys" subalbum
4. Did you go to Admin > Current Theme and choose your new smiley set
(the same name as your sub album)?
(see Step 5)
