1.  What did you put in as the Base Url?
2.  What did you name the smiley set?
3.  Did you choose that name (the smiley set name) in Current Theme as the default set for the theme?

Will we ever have it where we can have the smileys we have now plus add some (Not replace). I like the ones I have now but I would like to add a few more.

You can purchase the Custom Smiley Upgrade and then be able to upload unlimited smileys.

Is there any limit to the number of smilies which can be changed using the alternative coding as per the original post?

I seem to be getting stuck on 30. If I try to change a 31st, a previously changed one drops out. Sad  Hope I'm making sense! Cheesy

Yes there is a limit  -  only because you can only replace your existing smileys.  You cannot add MORE to them.

Im not clear on what you mean by the "alternative" coding though...      Do you mean purchasing the Custom Smiley Upgrade?    With that there is no limit

Thanks, sibyl.  Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. *blush*  I wondered if that might be the case!! *ooer*

By 'alternative coding', I meant the changes required for file path, file names being exactly the same as existing emotes, etc.  All works well except that it seems to be limiting me to 30.

Before I started updating anything, I added all available smilies in the default smiley set - there are quite a lot which aren't already added by default, e.g. babyroll.gif, BackFlip.gif, Cheers.gif, coffeedrinking.gif, etc., and wrote down ALL of their names.  At a guess, there's probably about 140 or so of them.

I've uploaded the emotes which I want to use to my Photobucket account and there's no problem with SMF finding them.  However, at this stage, I've got 32 in Photobucket, but the SMF admin section only seems to recognise 30 of them.  I've had some working fine, then, when I add another one, the previously well working one 'drops out' and returns to just text instead of an icon.

I'm well aware of the same naming issues, including usage of upper and/or lower case (I am a proofreader by occupation), so the only thing I could think of was a numerical limit to the amount of emotes available to show up on the board/in the 'more' section, hence my question about limits.

Hope this makes more sense?  Huh

Oh man.
I'm going to have to leave a note to SMF for Free's Admniistrator about this.   You should not be seeing all of those smileys there at all.    It appears some of the names are showing up from some that have been uploaded by those who have the Custom Smiley Upgrade.    He's going to have the fix that again.     You should only see the normal ones - smiley - wink - cheesy - grin - angry - sad  -  to name a few.

What is your forum's url so I can let him know which server this is happening on?

If you do not wish to post the url I just need to know if its an smfforfree.com, smfforfree2.com, smfforfree3.com, smfforfree4.com, mysmf.com, or freesmfhosting.com address

Oh, noooooo. Sad  So all that work I've done (five or six hours) is for nothing? *cry*

I cannot afford the custom emotes upgrade as I have not long ago started my own business and am struggling to live. Sad

I'll PM you my forum's URL.

Thanks for letting me know before I got any further!  Roll Eyes  Kiss

You did not say where you deleted it from.

1.  If from your Photobucket account -  re-upload the smiley to your account
2.  If you deleted it from the Edit Smileys page go to the Add smileys page, use the dropdown box, find the smiley you deleted and add it back.
