you dont need to have a chatbox i your header or footer. just make a new catergory called chatbox and make a board called chatbox and put your chatbox code into the descrition. check out my forums chatbox.

Sure you can put it in your header or footer rather than inside a board, however there are problems with that approach, namely anyone can type in it, not just registered members.

So there's no privacy and the box is an easy target for trolls and spammers.

When you put it inside a board not only can you decide exactly where you want the box to be located, but you can make it viewable to members only.

Can you make this chatbox private, for your members only? :)

If you were to put it into a board description, you could set the board permissions so that only certain membergroups can see it, or you could stop guests from.

But adding it your header/footer means anyone could access it.

ok i see you are all having problems with this.

Here is how you add the chatbox

Go to create a new board put Chatbox as title ( anything you want ) and put the code into the Description of that board and then you have your chatbox! :)

Or you could just add the shoutbox that comes with EzPortal.

Jntg4 - The shoutbox isn't a chatbox. It doesn't reload automatically and in order to see new messages the page must be reloaded.

Chat boxes are live chats, shoutboxes are more for leaving messages for people to see later.

I know, but it is better in ym opinion to have members go to multiple pages on your site, so they are more active, rather than looking at a screen and staying on 1 page.

Well they would rather stay on 1 page then having more then 1 screen up to talk

I'd rather them go around so they end up posting more.

We all have different ways we like to setup our forums..    let's keep the chatter to a minimum in the Support Topics
