Cheesy  Help please, I got my domain name from godaddy as the domain manager list, would have gotten it from them anyway but. it ask for two name servers, never setting up my own domain with all the boards I have done I am  idiot2. Well I forwarded the domain and whent to the domain manager in on my boardand get my 1 when I verify the url, but when going to update forum url it is showing an error because of the name servers.
I called goddady and they said I should have been supplied with the two name servers when I set up the board. Can anyone help me with were to get them. Thanks.

Ok for ns1.yourdomain.com and sm2.yourdomain.com what is it that we need in there. my godaddy domain name or my smfforfree domain name.
And on my godaddy manager I went in and set the IP as directed but it ask for something in the blank space were it says blank space in my example here.
Set Host and IP Addresses
Host name:
        blank  space             .DSPALLIANCE.COM
Host IP 1:                           Host IP 2:
In the spaces by host IP 1 & 2 I added the IP that is given in my domain manager.

Now this is were godaddy tech support got lost. what do you do now, this is the dirrect question from the head of this post. There are three options bellow. If you choose custom you get the name server options. Now tho the big question. What do you put in each one, the domain name you own, or the smfforfree subdomain you were given when you opened the account.

Parked nameservers (Park my domains here.)
Hosting nameservers (Host my domains here.)
Custom nameservers (I host my domains elsewhere.)
Nameserver 1: *                       Nameserver 2: *

If the information I was given confused the godaddy support guy just imagine how confused I am. I tried to tell him the only way I can update my url in my domain manager in my adming section of smfforfree is to have the nameservers set. Man he was lost.
I gues what I am asking is for a more discript explanation other than yourdomain.com   .
Thank you, I'm realy not trying to be a pain, just trying to get my donain info right so I can update my url in my admin board.

This is what I did.

Login to Godaddy
Click Domains, then My Domains in the Green Toolbar (top left)
You'll see your domain name there -  Click on it.

Scroll down to the bottom left of the page to Host Summary.
Click the (add) link.
For Hostname put:   NS1
Directly under that put the IP
Click OK

Click (add) again
This time put NS2 for the hostname, put the IP directly under it in the box, click OK.

Next step:

Click on the Nameservers button on the toolbar.
Put a checkmark in Custom Name Servers
Enter ns1.dspalliance.com  and ns2.dspalliance.com
Click OK

That's it at Godaddy.

Wait at least 24 hours then go to Domain Manager on your forum.
Put dspalliance in the box and click Park Domain,  verify the url , make sure you get a 1

Only took around 11 hours when I did it last week.

Thank you very much, it went through for once. I also have masking enabled in my domain manager on godaddy, but I was able to hit the update url in my smf board with out it giving me an error page.
Thank you both for your assistance.
Sibyl I agree, a more discript guide like this would be great, maybe in the tutoral section or what ever it is.
 Thanks again.

Roll Eyes  I just found out something and am passing it one. I have my domain names through godaddy, each one comes with an email. Well if you change the nameservers your email will not work on godaddy ore you email program like outlook. Smf for free unless they are hidding something dont host email, Please if I'm wrong correct me.
If you utilize the email account for your domain on godaddy.com you have to enable fowarding. Forward your paid domain name to your smf for free subdomain that smf gave you,  you will also have to options you ck 1 of the circles and click ok. After it updates you go back into forwarding and ckick on mask and click enable and click ok.
If you need help let me know.

Moderator edit:
IMPORTANT

If you wanto do forwarding instead of parking you have to Reset Default Forum Url to orginal and unpark the domain with us.    Once you have done that and are POSITIVE it is no longer parked THEN you can go to Godaddy and just set it to use that url to forward to your forum.   Do NOT use masking however.

You can not tell Godaddy to forward the url and tell the forum the url is parked.
It will not work, and you will be unable to login to your forum.
