how do i turn it off as all my members think they are a member of staff?  lol

Currently no way to turn it off. You can disable viewing the staff list though permission.

Does mean that the tab for Staff list has gone, like this forum, there is no staff list option.

It is not enabled here.

You can disable it thru Permissions.. it will still show up but they wont be able to use it.
If you want to hide it you will need to use a code.  Check the Codes Index under the tabs Category for the hide tabs code.  That'll do it.    Codes Index
