Problem-Maintenance Mode Site is closed for maintenance

When I went to my forum this morning this is what is showing on the page

Maintenance Mode
Site is closed for maintenance

I am the only person with admin login permissions,so what is happening, and how do I resolve the problem as I cannot get logged in

SMF link above says "The last backup for data is around 9/30 for smfforfree.com smfforforfree2.com" ....

What does 9/30 imply please?

So far my forum has been fine.  Hope nothing happens ...
