How to get a database dump, and access to files thru FTP
« on: May 14, 2016, 01:52:28 pm »
Sorry if this has been covered already.

We might be moving to another forum, and was wondering how we can get a database dump to a file, and what are the steps involved.

Also, we may not move, and wondering if there is FTP access to our site files if we would like to add or modify.

Is there some sort of cpanel we can access or?

Thank you.

We do not have cpanel or ftp access we use one set of files for all forums. We charge $50 for a db dump?

Why do you want to move though?

Fast response thanks!

We don't know for sure since there are some pros and cons we have to smoke out.

One issue we're having is, we are hosting our own domain name @ godaddy, and the site does work with that name when you first hit it, but all the topic/thread links are another domain name, and I know the other admin of that site spent lots of time trying to get it to work between godaddy and smfforfree. I guess it just isn't possible, so we want to at least clean that up. Thank you for asking.

I can get the domain fixed on your forum that is easy I have tons of people using custom domains.
Either follow our guide for godaddy
http://www.smfsupport.com/support/guides-and-tutorials/setting-up-your-domain-with-godaddy/

Or I can do it for you would need your forum url and godaddy login via pm.

Aha, looked at the guide and all looked OK, VERIFY URL gave me a 1, Update Forum URL gave me:

Domain name is not setup correctly! Please make sure that you own the domain name and that you have created and setup the nameservers.

So it looks like I need to go to godaddy and check nameservers, haven't accessed that account yet myself, but will.

Thanks for the offer to take care of it for us but let me give it a shot.

Or i think you can change the nameservers
to ns1.smfforfree.com and ns2.smfforfree.com if you are a smfforfree.com user
to ns1.smfforfree2.com and ns2.smfforfree2.com if you are a smfforfree2.com user
to ns1.smfforfree3.com and ns2.smfforfree3.com if you are a smfforfree3.com user
to ns1.smfforfree4.com and ns2.smfforfree4.com if you are a smfforfree4.com user

OK will check.

Funny thing is, even though I got the error message after "Update Forum URL", it appears now that all the links are working as they should. Well I'm still going to check @ godaddy when I get the credentials to do so.

Thank you!
