There used to be a setting in the features and options labeled "allow guests to browse the forum". But i dont see it anymore. It may have moved through the upgrades.

I do not have that option but you can setup board permissions.

are you saying its not possible? or there is a work around? this would be a critical need for us on this new setup.

i am not aware of how to set board permissions that would disallow an unregistered user to browse the boards. how would i set that up?

You would go to Admin -> Manage Boards
Then for each board modify it and say no guest access
