Can I Duplicate One Of My Forums ?
« on: July 27, 2015, 04:57:43 am »
Forum Url: http://snuffbottle.smfforfree.com/index.php?action=forum
The topic of one of my forums is especially popular to collectors in China as well.

Is there a way to create a duplicate the content for the current Chinese snuff bottle collecting forum ?  I would like to set the language for the new one to Chinese, and then let a Chinese speaking collector friend of mine be the admin, and run with it on my behalf.

Of course the content acquired from this point on would be different between the two.

It has been difficult having one of the forum Chinese speaking member to translate for those of us who do not understand Chinese..

I will do anything ya need on my end .. Pay what ever !

Duplicate the whole site? Posts and members and all?

For members, would like to let the one person chosen for admin. His current profile info/posts, etc carry over.. Plus myself..

Although, if it is an easy task to include all the members, that would be excellent.

Other than that member, yes, the forum in it's entirety.. categories, boards, side bar coding and all..  :)

Different url..

I can do it for sure and make Chinese the language I would just be somewhat worried about the searching rankings for the original site.

If your thinking about indexing/SEO, maybe affecting one sites ranking or the other ?

My best guess is the forum with English content would be separate of a forum with Chinese script.  The daily activities/content that Google crawls and indexes from within the English site or from within the Chinese scripted forum would not have any bearing on the other forum... At least I can not imagine how..

I don't know if this would help, but if you can alter a forums "title", "description", "Meta tags", etc from within the header part of the forum coding to Chinese ?  I think that would help keep the sites separate for Google ?  I am just sorta talking out loud..

Is that the sort of thing your curious about when you say "rankings" ?

At this very moment I am actually just thrilled to know it can be done.. ! There is much for me to consider before making it live.. Suppose could create it, put it in maintenance mode, and fine detail it.

I guess the first couple questions :

...Will the side bar, headers and footers html coding be in Chinese characters ?  Crossing my fingers that will remain in English.. I am able, but maybe will have to do any way.., change the text within the sidebar to Chinese ?

...Will all the admin features in the back end hopefully also remain in English ?

Well I could give you a chinnese language pack. So you can switch between the two hopefully.
The steps to do this would be signup for a url on createaforum.com and then let me know the url then will copy it over.

Not sure I understand what you mean about "switching between the two".

I am shooting for separate urls resulting in two separate forums.. Where all new activity from this point forward posted to the English forum, would not simultaneously be posted to the Chinese forum, and vise versa.. Will that be the end results for what trying to do ?

Also, maybe just an oversight, but do not see Chinese listed as one of the languages available.

Yeah it would be two separate forums. Once copied over a post in one only posts in that one.

I can install chinese for the new forum.

Sounds like a plan.. !

Pretty darn exciting..

Looks like a couple of fees ? One to set up, and another to cover each year, right ?

Logging off for now.. Lots to think about..

Huge thank you SMF !
