suddenly the goblin flicked open his SMF handset, repeating "...Goblin to Enterprise, migrate us up Sibyl...", Spock raised his eyebrows, looked straight at captain and then voiced calmly "...strangly, captain my sensors seem to be reading a usually odd lifefrom just a post above us...", "...Spoke, remember that this is Munchkinland so it's either a flying monkey or a Liverpudlian..."

I discovered SMF for free when MSN decided to ditch their Groups and I was looking for a new home for Xtra News Community 2 (a group of mostly Kiwis, but with a sprinkling of members from elsewhere around the world).

I didn't like the look of Multiply, which was being promoted by MSN. A number of other groups migrated to Multiply and alhough everything was transfered across okay, the Multiply format sucks.

So we sat back and watched to see what some of the other groups did. A lot of them were migrating to Yuku or ProBoards, but in the end we noticed some of the Aussie groups moving to SMF for Free and after looking carefully at all options, we eventually decided SMF was by far the best format, so created out new group with SMF for Free.

We copied and archived the old group at MSN ourselves. One of the moderators copied the entire group and ALL embeded files (including those hosted elsewhere away from MSN) onto one of the servers at his business. MSN cut him off twice (he didn't tell them what he was up to and I imagine MSN thought they were on the receiving end of a denial of service attack), but both times he was cut off, he changed his IP number and got right back in and carried on until he got the entire group. We are about to burn it onto DVDs (we can fit the entire contents of the group on a single DVD) and make it available to any of the members who would like a copy.

And.....several months at SMF for Free have proven to us we made the best choice. SMF rocks!!!

"...actually, there was this crack of thunder, the heavens opened, and the voice that clearly went "fancy starting a forum goblin, look I know just the place for you then"..." related the goblin eying the stubborn clock while his site was still down now, but the real question, the goblin remembered thinking at that point, was somewhere else as the memory refreshed itself in his patient mind, somehow the goblin understood that any site would become the fixed address of the admin of it, simply did he want to become fixed then, or remain floating, since the level of responsibility was clearly different, the pros and cons abounded, "...anyway, I remember saying "nah, not my thing, I'm really not the admin type, besides, those humans argue by nature and always doubt ones intentions too, but then again if it's just a storeroom where I can store my stuff and have next to no members, then I suppose I could become one"..." and with that the goblin's and the SMF's paths crossed, hardly a discovery then, more as a calculated compromise it seemed
